At its core, SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) requires UK organisations to disclose their annual energy use, carbon emissions, and energy efficiency actions as part of their company reporting obligations under the Companies Act.
By integrating compliance into your broader energy management approach, ARO helps you unlock insights that support operational performance, investor reporting, and long-term environmental strategy.

SECR Audits
Large UK organisations must comply annually with Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) requirements, disclosing energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency actions within their statutory accounts.
SECR applies to quoted companies, large unquoted companies, and large LLPs, requiring consistent, transparent reporting in line with Companies Act guidance. Organisations must calculate and report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, alongside an intensity metric and narrative explanation of performance.
ARO simplifies SECR compliance by managing data collection, emissions, calculations, validation, and reporting preparation. Our structured audit approach ensures your disclosures are accurate, compliant, and audit-ready, while transforming regulatory reporting into an opportunity to strengthen governance, reduce costs, and support a long-term sustainability strategy.

SECR Compliance FAQs
SECR (Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting) is a UK government framework requiring qualifying organisations to report their energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency actions within their annual Directors’ Report.
SECR applies to UK quoted companies, large unquoted companies, and large LLPs that meet at least two of the following criteria: turnover above £36 million, balance sheet total above £18 million, or more than 250 employees.
Organisations must disclose UK energy consumption, Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions, an intensity ratio, and details of energy efficiency measures taken during the reporting period.
SECR reporting is required annually and must be included within statutory financial accounts filed at Companies House.
SECR does not require a mandatory external audit. However, independent review and validation are strongly recommended to ensure accuracy, reduce compliance risk, and support investor and stakeholder confidence.
SECR complements ESOS by focusing on annual disclosure, while ESOS provides periodic energy audits and action planning. Together, they support stronger governance, improved efficiency, and long-term carbon reduction strategies.
ARO provides end-to-end SECR support, including data collection, emissions calculations, validation, reporting preparation, and ongoing advisory services. Our integrated approach ensures compliance while delivering measurable commercial and environmental value.
