Microsoft has announced significant updates to its licensing and billing options, effective April 1, 2025. These changes affect a wide range of products, including Microsoft 365, Windows 365, Power Platform, Teams Phone, and Power BI. New Pricing Structure for Microsoft Licensing

Microsoft will introduce three pricing options with varying billing terms:

  • Monthly Commit / Monthly Payment: A 20% increase over the Recommended Retail Price (RRP) (no change).
  • Annual Commit / Monthly Payment: A 5% increase over the RRP (new change).
  • Annual Commit / Annual Payment: RRP (no change).

Action Required:

  • Customers renewing licenses before April 1, 2025, can retain their current pricing until their next renewal in 2026 if they remain on the Annual Commit/Monthly Payment plan.
  • Switching to the Annual Commit/Annual Payment plan before renewal can help avoid higher costs after April 1, 2025.
  • Customers who take no action will automatically incur the 5% price increase on Annual Commit/Monthly Payment plans.

Flexible Billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Starting December 1, 2024, Microsoft introduced a new flexible billing option for annual Microsoft 365 Copilot subscriptions. Customers can now opt to pay monthly instead of upfront, at a 5% premium over the annual payment option. This option provides budget flexibility for businesses while ensuring continued access to AI-powered features.

Updates to Microsoft Teams Phone Pricing

Microsoft Teams Phone standalone subscriptions will see updated pricing starting April 1, 2025. Key changes include:

  • Teams Phone Standard: $10/user/month ($120/year).
  • Teams Phone for Frontline Workers: $5/user/month ($60/year).
  • Teams Phone with Domestic and International Calling: $34/user/month ($408/year).

Note: Microsoft 365 E5 license holders will not experience pricing changes for Teams Phone features.

Power BI Pricing Changes

Microsoft Power BI Pro and Premium Per User (PPU) licenses will also experience price adjustments globally:

  • Power BI Pro: $14/user/month (£11, up from £8.20).
  • Power BI PPU: $24/user/month (£19, up from £16.40).

These new rates will apply to all new and renewing commercial customers starting April 1, 2025. Pricing for monthly payments with annual commitments will include an additional 5% premium.

Important: UK pricing is not yet finalised; current GBP rates are approximate based on USD conversions.
